Big Brake Upgrade

Ok so theres a good chance I'm gonna be fitting some 4 pot (320mm disks) Brembo's or ap racing calipers to the front of my ZR soon. The thing is I'm fairly sure the imbalance between huge disks up front and drum brakes at the rear is gonna be a bit silly. Therefore what's the best disk brake setup I could fit on the rear beam? Are 160 brakes gonna be decent or am I better off looking at an after market setup for the rear as well? Maybe 2 pots?

Also, any advice on brake bias valves? Will I need one?

yeah, but under efficient braking the rear don't do a lot compare to the front so you won't need to go mad.

Not 100% but I think Billy had Brembos and drums. Might be lying though lol.

Ok, I'm thinking the sensible thing to do would be fit the fronts and just see how it goes. I'm not gonna go crazy with the rears and fit another set of 300mm disks or anything lol. I just want it to stop like it's hit a brick wall tbh

EDIT: Do you know of an actual percentage of braking that the rears do compared to the front. I'll do a few calculations then.

Why do you wanna waste all that money on 4 pots when they aren't needed. Paul Luti still runs his ZR 190 race car on the standard ZR 160 calipers and he said they are more than enough, he said he gets no brake fade and that's a heavy race session not just your standard track day. Save your money and get good pads and discs instead!

id try get 160 discs for the rear if you can, if its partly aesthertic its going to look a bit odd with big massi brakes on the front and drums on the rear, id imgagine youd notice a difference with the 160 rear discs and 160 fronts, just a thought, maybe do that first then go to the brebo's on the front too

This is true. My car was originally a 1.4 so has drums.

i have brembos up front on standard pads and brembodge disks, and just some good pads in the 262 disks on the rear and even under hard repeted breaking i cant get the rears to lock up theats with avon zz-3 tyres and 35 profile sidewalls. however the back end does go light and does want to wander at even the slightest touch of the steering wheel, so i would see how you go but i would look into an additional bias valve and maybe knocking the abs off for the track. im going to be fitting bigger calipers and disks to se if that helps as i got all the brembo calipers off the same car, good luck and let us know how it goes
Very interesting mate. Thanks. That's my main concern tbh. I don't want it to start going light at the rear under braking. I'll loose confidence under braking if I feel it's gonna turn around on me.

What are your brakes your fitting to the rear? I presume your using custom adapters for them?

Keep the drums, you'll miss not having a decent handbrake
See I get your point but really I don't do handbrake turns and it's not really a great effort to leave it in gear when parking up.

If Billy or Samsexpress read this I'd be interested to hear your opinions also.

yep im using basically the whole setup from a renault megane 225 that still has the mechanical arms in the rear calipers that operate the handbrake aswell, i just need to work out what size disks to use, it doesent help with the car being nose heavy, but the breakes are awsome, ill let you know how i get on

Nice one mate, I'm intrigued. I'll look into this a little more tomorrow.

Wow. Some bad advice there lol. Ever driven a car with pots on? also i can get my 282's with TI calipers to cook very very quickly and they fade like nobodys. Im running supposably fast road pads too.
I don't believe that. I've never seen you drive fast enough to need brakes.

that my old rover 1.4 sam. seats are down so i could get the back bumper (that fell off when i hit the wall.. lol) in the boot so i can flee the scene live'o  at the time of the crash i had 2-3 bitches and hoes in the car. they were kicked out after sustaining whiplash. couldnt leave a part of the rover behind...

cool cool, sounds good!

For a while i was running 4 pots on the front and drums on the rear. It was shocking. I then went to 160 disks on the rear and it was still poo. I then ran the lines inside the car with a BIAS valve and it's awesome!

I would reccomend a full 160 setup front and rear and use a BIAS Valve. With decent pads they will be more than adequate for a lightweight zed track car. :)

Imo of course.
