Alternator Belt Making Funny Noise

Hi Guys,

I've got a 51plate ZR TD, and my alternator belt makes a sqeaking noise, and occasionally a really wierd creakin noise

I've replaced the alternator belt and was easy because my cars got the Auto Tensioner fitted on it. The belt still sqeakes now and again, and that annoying creakin noise I can here

I was wondering if it was the bearing inside me alternator that was on the way out. But a friend of mine who's a mecanic said it's most likely the Auto Tensioner that's on the way out, so I just need some advice on how to tell if it is that or not? Also is it easy to replace?

I was temepted to whip the drivers side tyre off, and spray a bit of WD40 into the tensioner just encase it's drying up a bit with the winter and all the rubbish off the road going into it, is that a stupid idea guys?

Any advice would be appreciate?

Cheers Gav

see my post, its the bearing on the tensioner, the bearing is sealed so wd40 is a waste of time.had a spare tensioner pulley off an old sd which sounded dry ground off the 3 rivets knocked out the bearing (size 40 od x 17 id x 12 thick sealed about a fiver),clamped it all back together, then spot welded the back of the rivets, not yet fitted though, dont want to crawl in the snow

Hi Milky thanks for the response. I think I'll just pop along to the nearest Car Shop and buy a new Aux Tensioner because I'm no good at welding :)

Are the Aux Belt Tensioners easy to fit?

When I put a new Aux Belt on the car it was easy just pushed the tensioner forward with a 15mm Spanner on the tensioner bolt

Thanks for your help buddy :)

tried to fit it today....gave up
belt off ..yes
undo 15mm headed bolt.....yes
remove the bolt....not a chance, couldnt get enough clearance to get the bugxxr out,do you have to undo the engine mount and slightly lower the engine,or drill a hole in the offending beam(not really)
ran out of time and had to re fit ,not happy
