This works well. Did that on mine until the weather got better

Is yours completely wrecked Shafz? I'd try fixing it or getting a whole sunroof from a scrappy to play with

its not complete wrecked but i would want to change it, the rubber is somewhat dis-formed and would prefer to put a new seal on
i will try heating it and bending it back in shape over the weekend

my sunroof has died too now (RIP) so going to remove and do the do as directed

i was told that the unit only come in one bonded part, but think that was just MG trying to snag 400 odd notes off me.

It's probably the join between the rubber and the sunroof letting water in. It tends to follow capillary action and then follow onto the headlining rather than the drain pipes which would collect water as a result of the seal to the car body failing. The clue is if the headlining is wet and there is no water overflowing from the drain areas then it's the sunroof to rubber seal failing.

You'll need hammerite, a dust sheet to protect your interior from debris and paint, a flat-head screwdriver to remove rust and debris from the sunroof channel that connects to the rubber seal, some clear or black bathroom sealant and a bit of elbow grease. This looks like a fairly comprehensive guide to fixing it:
