Where are they?

Could someone please tell me where on the car to find the RF receiver for the locking system (fob), and the BCU/SCU on a 54 plated facelift ZR.

SCU is mounted on a bracket on the bulkhead behind the air conditioning evaporator ducting behind the centre console. It will probably need the air con degassing and the join in the pipework below the coolant expansion tank in the engine bay disconnecting so that you can remove the evaporator/ducting to get at it.

The reciever for the remote locking system is within the SCU itself. Because of the way the wiring loom comes through from the engine bay and the SCU being mounted with the connectors uppermost, water sometimes gets in between the wires in the loom and runs down and into the SCU. The first thing an water ingress gets to is the remote locking radio reciever, and failure of the cemtral locking to respond to the fob can be the first indication that damage has occurred.

I assume that you have checked that the fobs have good batteries and therefore can be assumed to be working?

If the SCU requires repair, I can recommend Paul Brown in Brighton Technozen Electronics - he knows these units very well and has been offering a very reasonably priced repair service for them for some years now. You would need to remove the SCU and post it to him.

He made a very informative thread about the Pektron SCU and its common problems over on mg-rover.org which may be worth a read - General Pektron SCU/BCU
