New fob needed in Lincolnshire

Hi all,

I need a new fob for my 2005 MG ZR Mk.2.
The fob is oval and has 3 buttons. (Pektron SCU I believe?)

I already have 1 fob for it to be coded against.

Cheapest quote I've had is 150 all in from Car Key Man in Lincoln.

I've tried almost every MG Garage in Lincoln, Peterborough, Grantham, and Skegness inc. Rimmer Brothers. But if you have any I might have missed, please shout 'em out!

Cheers, Mix

My Garage
What's wrong with it? Mine stopped working because battery died.

Put new battery in. Unlocked and locked with both fobs and it started working again. Both batteries now changed.

I had already found a place by the time I read this.. I called about 20 places around Lincs. but I don't think I called these..
In the end, I went with City Locks in Peterborough. 105 all in for an after-market fob, would have been 140 for a genuine MG key. Thankfully the insurance covered it!

It's a long and weird issue..

Couple of weeks after I bought it, I decided to put a new battery in as the range was pretty poor. After replacing the battery (as per the manual instructions) the car would not respond. I had to use the other fob as the current was knackered.

Sent it off to be repaired by a chap on eBay, was returned in a new case, having had new buttons soldered on, and battery replaced, worked like a charm.

For a few days. After which it took 2 button presses for the car to respond, then 3 etc.

I took it apart and put it back together again which seemed to fix the issue, unlocking first time, again, for a few days..

Sent it back to the guy, who then replaced the battery terminal, but on return the same issue as above persisted.

Did a little bit of experimenting and found that when I took off the case and held the board to the battery, it would respond 100% of the time. When it was in the case, it would require more button presses over time. At worst requiring you to almost massage the rubber to get it to hit the button..

Ordered a new case from eBay, but this not fix the issue, it seemed as if the nipples on the underside of the rubber on the fob, were completely missing the buttons on the board..

By this point I was getting pretty irked, and my other fob I had been using in the meantime was starting to suffer the same fate. So I checked my insurance which luckily had key cover, so got a new one from City Locks as mentioned above, and haven't had any issues using the new fob!
I plan to get the other (2 now) repaired as having only 1 reliable key isn't ideal.

(Only issue I'm having with my new fob is also weird. The first interaction with the car (locking/unlocking/boot) has to be done quite close (~30cm) but then further interaction with the car can be done from 7/8m away... Until it is left for some time, then I need to be close again..)
