Depends how old you are.

Under 21 you have to be limited to 33bhp for 2 years. doesn't have to be a 250cc it can be any bike you want and then fitted with a limiter. The thing is if you go out and buy a big bike with all of it's power right at the top end like a zx-6RR or similar then limit it, you will probably be slower than a 33bhp 250cc anyway.

Over 21 you can just take your tests on a big bike and ride anything you want.

Costs 15 + bike hire (60 for me) for mod 1 test, 75+bike hire (60) for mod 2 test & then the theory test which you have to do even if you have a car licence.

I paid 75 for a three hour lesson including hire of a kawasaki ER-6F for the 3 hours. Had 2 lessons before MOD1 and 2 lessons on MOD2.

Altogether about 550.

the law at one point stated that when i use the restrictor had to be on the bike at all times. its basically a washer for a carbed bike so i put mine on my keys prob changed that now tho.
