MK2 ZR-Express With Factory Look Sat Nav Unit.

Something I thought about doing years ago but never got around to it. I have always thought the dash is so clearly almost ready for a sat nav but was never an option from the factory so I bought a 2nd hand dash topper that houses the clock & gave it to a audio/alarm etc specialist in Welling, Kent & told them what I wanted, gave them my Garmin Sat-Nav then let them get on with it. The result is in the picture.
Painting the trim was a pain as the paint kept reacting with the plastic so that took a while to get right but all was well in the end.
The good thing about it is that if I wish to return the dash to standard that is just a case of swapping the trims back over.

I really like that, what an awesome mod. Just one question though, what happens when you need to update software, is it removable

Yes, the unit is fixed into the dash topper housing with the port visable so all you need to do is pop off the facia, undo the two screws that hold the topper in place then pull out the whole thing & take it to PC, unless you can somehow join the power lead & the PC/USB lead together & have the USB one in the glove box. though I think if this were possible it would have been suggested to me.
