Look for little niggly bits like small stone chips as you can use bits like that to haggle the price down. Be really picky lol.

if it has alloys make sure the kit is in the car - should be under the carpet in boot

Crash damage, loads have been crashed.

Just the usuals really when checking any car.

Check the sunroof doesn't leak, rear wash/spray works, check for signs of water leaks in the boot.
Check all the electrics work.

Before starting the engine, have a smell of the coolant, if it smells of a "burnt" kind of smell, I'd be looking for other signs of HGF like "mayo" in the oil, lots of white smoke from the exhaust.
Take it for a drive, watch the temperature gauge, it should sit just below halfway.
Idle should be fairly smooth and at around 800 RPM.

An 05 plate shouldn't have many problems if it's been looked after reasonably well. I'd ask to see service History and Receipts too.

The link Simon posted above is also useful.

for an 05 should be a decent motor enjoy the test drive - far as price goes look at AA used car value so if he is asking above you know you can do better on price

Also, don't be put off if little things don't work or aren't great. It gives you things to barter on.

Another point, Cambelt may need changing soon depending on mileage. I thinks its about every 50K or 5 years.
