Problem with the alarm

Wonder if anyone can help here.

The past week I've been having problems with the alarm on my 04 ZR (pre facelift model).

Basically what happened was the alarm went off while I was at work so after resetting the system it went off again a few minutes later. In the end I couldn't lock the car with either the fob or the key without the alarm being set and then going off.

When the fob is pressed to lock the car or when the key is used she blows the horn and the lights don't flash as they should. She could sit like this for hours or only a matter of minutes before the alarm goes off again.

In addition to this the interior light has started an intermitant fault. It sometimes won't turn on when the cars is unlocked or when the door are opened and other times the light won't turn off without physically switching it off at the light itself.

Don't know if these are related problems or not but they both arrived together.

The fuses are fine and the battery was replaced before Christmas. I even tried the spare keys and fob thinking maybe it was a low battery in the fob, but made no difference.

Hopefully someone here has some solution to the problem - could it be the BCU / SCU? Any idea where this is located. The guy I have looking into the problem thinks it could be a switch / sensor which is located in the driver's door - was quoted 155 for this part from an ex-MG Rover garage.

It may be the BCU. The later versions have had some nasty problems. have you tried locking the car with just the keys rather than with the remote? This will IIRC still enable the alarm but disable the volumetric sensors (or is it the perimetric I cant remember?). See if this makes any difference to the fault and may help you track down the problem?

+1

I normally wait for an unsuspected victim to be getting out my car and just before they shut the door and locking on the fob causing the horn to go off and having a girl jumping out her skin

Should have mentioned - all the doors, bonnet and bootlid are all properly closed. I thought that originally, or that I'd left a window open a bit - unfortunately wasn't the cause of the problem.

I took a look at the door switch as well - it seems to be working ok.

Thanks for the response folks - hopefully will get something sorted sooner rather than later.
