Mobile Speed Cameras

Can the normal Vauxhall Astra police cars be equipped with mobile speed cameras, or does it have to be a clearly marked van? As i know that normal speed cameras can't be hidden... The reason I ask is because I was doing around 40mph in a 30, which I'm fully aware is my own fault, but I can't help feeling a little hard done by as the police car was hidden in a siding, and it was 10pm, on a long, straight road with no other cars on it... Just wishful thinking I guess - is it just a case of waiting for two weeks to see if I get the dreaded letter?

EDIT: btw, there are speed camera signs up =\

iirc it has to a be a clear marked van and they have to be parked in a special bay for police camera parking and there has to be a camera sign also

As far as im aware they dont use cameras is police cars, thats unless its a traffic cop, like a vectra/volvo/mondeo ST as they have the ANPR cameras aswell as speed detection systems, but i think they only detect speed - then they decide if they want to stop you or not. I dont think they are part of the 'camera partnership' and so you shouldnt get a ticket

If there are speed camera signs up then i dont no. They even have bikes now with speed cameras on, foookin quick ones aswell. Even so i dont think the cameras will work at night anyway, they need a fix on your plate which is hard to get at night as you cant see the edges.

U Should Be Fine Jase
I Used 2 Work With The Police
And Astra's Only Have ANPR Systems As Said Above
Also . . Can Detect Speed To Chase With The "Hairdryers" But Don't Record, Unless Get You From Front Or Back, Hence Parked In A Side Street Wouldn't Work!

If Anything, They Would Have Chased You, But Probs Eating Donuts

It did get me from the front... Its hard to explain, but it was kinda faced diagonally facing me... There may not have even been police in the car, and ay have been at one of the houses nearby... Just felt a bit awkward...

thanks for all your contributions.

Bit off topic but with fixed speed cameras, are they only aloud to flash you from behind? As in when your on the same side of the road? or can they get you going in both directions because the White lines are on both sides of the road.
