My Garage
Cannon EOS 1100d

Its my birthday tomorrow and I've just found out that my Mrs has bough me the above camera. I'm pleased and a bit annoyed tbh.

I know nothing of photography or kit to buy but have mentioned a few times that i'd like to get a DSLR or a nice spec camera to learn with and hopefully take nice pictures. Now..... she's spent a small fortune on this bless her, I'm not sure its going to be the right thing for me as a n00b.

Any pointers from anyone welcome...

Discuss!

Congrats on getting your 1st slr! As Bry said jump on the fourms ect.

I started using forums then just got out there and played around with every option / variant i could find. Find some good locations and play around with angles, exposure times, different custom modes (p/tv/av/m ect ) found on your dial.

No forum can teach you to find your style. It takes time but you will notice yourself improve with every shot you take.

Kit i recommend to get for a starter which i still use now from when i started!

- Decent tripod
- Telescopic Lens (55mm - 250mm)
- Hama m58 filter ( sunshine filter )

Get out there and have fun!

Get yourself a backpack, something like a Lowepro 250, 350. Great for carrying your kit and easy access to your camera. Handy for bike rides, hill climbing etc.

Look forward to some of your shots. Get yourself on Flickr and share your pictures.

Opened my pressie this morning! What an awesome piece of kit. I have a feeling that I've got a hell of a lot of learning to do.

I've had a look online and it's cheaper if you book online and collect. Weve decide to take this one back and book online and collect as I can basically get a memory card included this way. And yes... She did forget to get a card with it. Bless her!

So here are a few pics so far. Love the clarity of the macro shots. When you zoom in on them there is more detail than you see with the naked eye.

Looking good, with macros, fill the picture frame up with more of the subject as, as you have said, you see a lot more detail with a macro shot than the naked eye. I took one a while back for example, mine was slightly cut off at the top though but you get the idea ;
