Pay for fibre to the door and you'll get whatevers advertised. While it still runs over copper thats just something you're going to have to deal with.

Absolutely pointless getting 100mb. We've got 20+ users in our building constantly online (like now, I'm caning this site when I should be quoting customers!!) and ours is only 20mb business use.

20mb is ample enough for your usual family use, i.e gaming online, younger brother checking out the old donkey pr0n, sister upstairs chatting online.

The only time I've ever noticed any lag was on 10mb, when I was caning torrents and playing Black Ops

I'm at 25mb at home now, and its more than ample for me. A full HD episode of Anime only takes around 3-5 mins to download. Any Faster and i dont think that the Hard Drive would keep up.

I disagree.

100mb may be overkill for now as a lot of servers and/or exchanges wont be able to handle the speed and will often restrict it but theres nothing wrong with 50mb.

Your business line will most likely be dedicated and normal family use or multiple people browsing sites dont use a lot of bandwidth. Get a couple of members playing online games, or downloading 1080p films and see what happens ;)

Its all down to how much you use the internet. I build applications and websites for a living so am forever uploading, downloading and testing websites. Then in my spare time i can easily be downloading 30GB+ of media a week such as films and music etc and playing fps games online where a good ping is critical to enjoy a lagg free game. You will also be capped at how much you can download a day and at what times, whereas im unrestricted.

If you play on xbox 360 or PS3 then the ping is Irrelivant as its all monitored and evened out nowadays anyway, the only place it still seems to be affected a bit is on PC games, where the mismath of pings gives people with a good ping the advantage (lag runners they are called)

To me 100mb isnt necessary at all right now, 50mb is more than enought to stream 1080p movies, do gaming and have something downloaded at the same time.
