The 1.4 Fiat Panda does it in 9.2. But at the end of the day its a 15 year old engine so things have changed, maybe if MG Rover were still around there would be a much improved engine available..

Suzuki Swift GTI the very old 1.3 model, has quicker acceleration not sure about top speed though

New Renault Twingo is the same has quick acceleration but again not 100% sure on top speed
Yeah those old ones went like hot snot for there size, and had vented discs/discs.

They are the only 1.4 that is quicker in rallying in Group N

Far as i can remember the ZR is the most powerful 1.4 as standard, but its not the fastest. Its quite a heavy car compared with other "hot" hatches. Would have been best if MG could have kept the weight under a ton. It would have been really awesome then, most powerful 1.4 in a very light car.

No it wasn't hence it was in the same rally class as the ZR.

We are missing on an obvious one though, Metro Gti, same engine as a ZR but a lot lighter.

Or one for the geeks, not more powerful but definately quicker Pug 205 Rallye (European Spec not UK spec) 103bhp from a 1.3 and 790kg
