Hi all,

I want to remove the ECU on my Rover 200 as I fell the need to polish it up... as you do. Will this nack any settings or cause any problems. Can I just de attach it and re attach it without any fear. Disconnect the battery first?

Thanks for any advice.

I was told that if it looses power for to long it can forget that it's an ECU.
Don't know what it thinks it is but not an ECU.

dont know to be honest

the only thing i would worry about is ure immobiliser
ure pseudo code will be shifted and stored in the ram
i dont know if this is battery backed up and if it is how long it will last
once u put the ecu back if ure ram is erased it will pull out the original psuedo signal and if u have used ure key fob more than 100 times
ull have to get it reprogrammed as itll be out of sinc..

So what happens when you remove the main car battery?
I think the code is stored on an EPROM or some such in the alarm ECU not the main engine ECU so it wont make any difference.
I have just checked the procedure in the workshop manual and there is no reason why you cannot remove and refit the original MEMs without any problem. The only warning is that if a NEW ECU is fitted it will need reprogramming witrh 'test book'
