i got full janspeed exhaust and the manifold gets very hot under the bonnet so i was thinking about that exhaust heat wrap? does anyone know if its worth doing and do you have to buy the heat wrap ties or will standard cable ties do or will they simply melt??

The retention of heat within the manifold can increase the exhaust scavenging by increasing the exhaust gas temperature which is good.

The increase in heat retention of the manifold means an increase in heat transference to the cylinder head which in turn can result in annealing (softening) of the hardening process that the head has been through and may result in premature HGF, which is bad!

There are a few other trains of thoughts as well but you pay your money and take your choice. Personally I would opt for plasma coating.

Plasma coating dosent transfer the heat to the manifold (as much) it keeps in inside the pipe.

With heatwrap, the exhaust gas is still in direct contact with the metal of the manifold, the wrap is just a jacket on the outside.

With a plasma coating both the inside and the outside of the pipe is coated. This keeps the heat in the pipe and stops it getting to the manifold or the head.

The other thing is that you can get the plasma coating in all sorts of trick colours and effects

The power increase after heat wrapping the exhaust manifold is approx 2%, this was tested on the Range Rover Sport HSE, and several other cars have been tried and tested all found gains of around 2%. Which isnt alot to be honest, on a 105, its just over 2 bhp, and a 160 its 3.2 bhp so nothing major but every little helps. Ive done it to my 105 and i would say i felt a difference driving it, but that could just be down to me wanting to feel a difference if you know what i mean. Ive also had the heat wrap on and off twice over the past few months and there doesnt appear to be any damage to the manifold.
