i have had all last week off and now today off saying i am ill (im not really ju fancied it off) now the boss has rang me saying i need a doctors note because been off longer than 5days. do i really need one or do i just need one if i want sick pay?

Most you can have off self certificated is 5 days IIRC.

me 1sy year at the job so not had a day off in 8months and we dont get any holiday in the 1st year so thought jus av day off but then the next day cam and the next etc. back 2morrow though hopefully he will just 4get about it

The note isn't just for getting paid, it's to say that you are incapable of working too.
If you don't have proof that you are certified by a medial professional that you are incapable of working then you are classed as able to work are therefore AWOL.

To be honest I've never understood people who just fancy a day off. Everyone feels like that sometimes but skiving for the sake of an extra hour in bed is appalling.
It's the next step on from getting a note from your mum to get out of games lessons every week cos you're embarressed that all the other boys have hair on their legs and you don't yet

In regards to gettin paid or not you will not get paid for the first 3 days so you will only get paid 2 days sick pay.

you usually get 1 week only for being ill, sometimes 2, but any longer than 5 days and they put you on SSP, which they need a sick note for...

no holiday pay in your first year thats mad, you cant expect someone to work 52weeks before i break, i get 2 days per month no matter when i started at my job and im sure most others are like that
you do need a sick note after 5 days, i did when i had my operation on my knee and needed a few more days before i went back

6 months full pay and after that its down to half pay at my work. Theres loads of people off for months in BT.
