Most likely is the exhaust mis positioned and hitting the rear beam - possibly just needs the rubber hangers moving a bit or replacing if they have got weak and are letting the system hang too low.
Could be a broken spring, although I would expect that to clonk more often than you describe - fairly easdy to check visually with the wheel off.
